You and your general practice is a new national framework agreed as part of the 2025/26 GP contract. It sets out, in clear and simple terms, what patients can expect from their GP practice โ and what the practice asks of patients in return.
You and your general practice is about partnership. It helps make sure that everyone gets the best possible care by encouraging mutual understanding and respect. For example, patients are encouraged to arrive on time, come prepared, and cancel appointments they no longer need, so that valuable time can be offered to others. In turn, GP practices are expected to listen to patients, make reasonable adjustments where needed, and provide clear routes for giving feedback or raising concerns.
Why does this matter? Because feedback โ whether positive or critical โ is how services improve. Every comment helps practices learn, adapt and provide better care. Patients also benefit from knowing how to raise issues safely, whether with their practice, Healthwatch, or their Integrated Care Board.
You and your general practice ensures that patients and practices work together, building a fairer, more transparent system for everyone.
You and your general practice (YYGP) has been developed to help patients understand what to expect from their general practice and how they can get the best from their GP team. YYGP also enables patient to provide feedback or raise concerns with their GP Practice, Healthwatch or the integrated care board (ICB).
