Flu and Covid winter boosters

September/October we will be holding our annual flu clinics along with our autumn winter covid booster clinics.

Clinics that will be available are –

Saturdays and Sundays 8:30-17:30.

Tuesdays 16:00 – 20:00.

Wednesdays 16:00-20:00.

Thursdays 16:00-20:00.

Flu vaccines will be offered during the covid clinics when available. We will also hold clinics at Newgate for those who only wish to attend for a flu vaccine, and for those who have received their covid vac at an earlier date. Dates to be confirmed once delivery of Flu vaccinations are confirmed.

We will continue to provide covid clinics for children aged 5-11 years. To book an appointment please call Newgate on 01909 500266 after 10am.

Eligibility for Covid autumn/winter dose: 

All patients will be sent for following the NHS cohorts (group) system. When you are eligible you will be sent for by text or letter. 

  • all adults aged 50 years and over
  • those aged 5 to 49 years in a clinical at-risk group, including pregnant women
  • those aged 5 to 49 years who are household contacts of people with immunosuppression
  • those aged 16 to 49 years who are carers
  • residents in a care home for older adults and staff working in care homes for older adults
  • frontline health and social care workers

In addition, the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) will be widening the offer of the free flu vaccine to more eligible groups. These additional groups will only be eligible once the most vulnerable, including previously announced pre-school and primary school children, those aged 65 years and over and those in clinical risk groups, have been offered the jab.

The additional groups set to be offered the free flu vaccine in England will be:

  • all adults aged 50 to 64 years
  • secondary school children in years 7, 8 and 9, who will be offered the vaccine in order of school year (starting with the youngest first)

Walk in clinic availability

Walk in flu clinics available at Newgate.

Saturday 11th March 1pm – 5pm.

Saturday 18th March 1pm-5pm.

As we approach the end of flu season, we are holding walk in clinics. You must be registered with us and meet the criteria as listed below.

.50 and over (including those who will be 50 by 31 March 2023)

.Have certain health conditions

.Are pregnant

.Receive a carer’s allowance, or are the main carer for an older or disabled person who may be at risk if you get sick

Live with someone who is more likely to get a severe infection due to a weakened immune system, such as someone living with HIV, someone who has had a transplant, or is having certain treatments for cancer, lupus or rheumatoid arthritis

.Respiratory conditions, such as asthma (needing a steroid inhaler or tablets), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), including emphysema and bronchitis

.Diabetes

.Heart conditions, such as coronary heart disease or heart failure

.Being very overweight – a body mass index (BMI) of 40 or above

.Chronic kidney disease

.Liver disease, such as hepatitis

.Some neurological conditions, such as Parkinson’s disease, motor neurone disease, multiple sclerosis (MS), or cerebral palsy

.A learning disability

.Problems with your spleen like sickle cell disease, or if you’ve had your spleen removed

.A weakened immune system as a result of conditions such as HIV and AIDS, or taking medicines such as steroid tablets or chemotherapy

Other Services

Our practice nurse team can also provide a wide variety of health promotion and monitoring services including INR monitoring, weight management, vascular risk, minor illness, well woman and health checks.

Minor Injuries

To avoid an unnecessary trip to A&E Did you know our treatment room nurse can see you for minor injuries.

These include minor burns, lacerations, foreign bodies, minor eye conditions, bites, minor trauma to limbs etc.

Vaccinations

The practice provides a wide range of vaccination services, to make an appointment with a practice nurse please call and speak to reception.

Diabetic Care

Diabetic clinics are run by our Lead Diabetic Nurse in conjunction with our dedicated lead clinician, An appointment can be made via reception.

Asthma & COPD

Specialist practice nurses run full Asthma and COPD clinics. For an appointment please call the surgery and speak with reception.

Child Health

The practice provides a full immunisation service and baby health checks, Appointments/Invitations will be sent to you via letter.

In House Counselling

We have a dedicated team of counsellors that join us from TALKZONE.

Minor Ops & Joint Injections

Dedicated Minor op and joint injection clinics are run by two GP’s, an initial appointment is needed to assess suitability of procedure
