Blood Pressure Checks

Hypertension rarely has noticeable symptoms, but if left untreated it increases the risk of serious problems such a heart attack and strokes. Around 1 in 4 adults in the UK will have high blood pressure, although many will not realise.

The only way to find out if your blood pressure is raised is by having your blood pressure checked and this does not always require an appointment. Many pharmacies now offer free blood pressure checks within their scheduled opening times which can include evening and weekends (please check scheduled opening times with your local pharmacy). The information will then be sent over to your GP for action if needed.

Another way of checking your blood pressure (no appointment necessary) is to visit our patient POD located in the foyer at Newgate. The POD is free to use and allows you to perform simple checks at your own convenience including (but not limited to) a blood pressure check. The POD will then print out a slip for you to keep and the information will be sent to our team of Care Coordinators who will review and send to our in house pharmacy team or GP, if necessary. If further follow up is required a member of the team will be in touch!
